Sister Cities is an international movement, first suggested by the American president Eisenhower after the death and destruction of WWII, as a way that ordinary people in cities around the world could promote peace by extending the hand of friendship, and learning and respecting one another's culture.

It remains an organisation dedicated to friendship and goodwill at the individual and city level, regardless of national politics.

Programs and activities may spread over any aspect of society - education, culture, medicine, sport, tourism, business and trade.
